Steve Forbert, Alive on Arrival

This road warrior’s 1978 debut album is among my favorites. It helps that I’ve seen him about a dozen times in concert and I know every word by heart. He’s a frenetic, engaging live performer whose wit and passion are second to none. He was someone who immediately struck a note with the core members of my HH buddies, mainly because he wrote and played from his gut, and to see that kind of sincerity and determination up close and personal at an early age leaves a lasting impression. If we lived in a more just world, Steve Forbert would be a household name.
