Sam Cooke, Ain’t That Good News

Any album that contains the original version of “A Change Is Gonna Come” is worth owning and cherishing, and preserving for all time. A March 1964 release that has been called “tragically unique” in Cooke’s oeuvre, this is the last full-length studio album to be made and released during Cooke’s lifetime.

Ain’t That Good News shows how much more the man had to offer as a deeply moving singer and songwriter six months after he lost his 18-month-old son in a drowning. Cooke would be gone less than 10 months later at the age of 33 in a shooting death. What a mighty loss to the wider than music world.
