By the time I was of age to be drafted, to be sent overseas to fight for our freedom in foreign lands like my father before me, there was no draft. But there always seemed to be war. And conflict wherever you turned. Marvin Gaye alienated a great percentage of his fans when he began to sing protest songs during the Vietnam War era. He took a stance that “war is not the answer.” It never was, nor ever could it be. “For only love can conquer hate.” All these years later his angelic voice and message still resonate.
