Bloomfield, Kooper, Stills, Super Session

When you think of supergroups, the first bands that may come to mind are Cream and Blind Faith, but it would be hard to top the one-album output of this 1968 trio. Mike Bloomfield, arguably the most underrated guitarist in rock history, joins forces with the Forrest Gump of rock (Al Kooper) and the S (for Supermusician) in CSN. The reason I call Kooper Gump is not because he’s simple, no. It’s because he seemed to be everywhere at once in this glorious period of rock. He formed Blood, Sweat & Tears in the same year as this recording and just seemed to show up at some of the most magical sessions of the Sixties (Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited, for one).
