Can you get accepted and rejected in one fell swoop? Can they kill two birds with one stone. Sort of. Get this: Gordon Lish at The Quarterly accepted a story of mine called “Following Questions.” He sent a hand-written note announcing the news and one small stipulation, “as revised.” I obliged, then a short time later submitted another story, “Revolver,” for consideration. Why not try my luck? They bit again, but shut the doors to the journal before publishing either piece. A real close, but no cigar story. It’s not without its moral. Each story found a home with different publications. Keep on trucking!
