curated by the Atticus Books staff Hell Yeah! Worthy is a weekly Friday feature where our staff distills the plethora of scat on the Internet into a succinct list of the best you haven’t seen, the best you ignored, and the best you should visit again
Cartoon Shorts
What can I say, cartoons rock. Especially when they are of famous short stories like Flannery O’ Connor’s “A Good Man is Hard to Find” or Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”
(which gave me nightmares in eighth grade). You can find these and eight other great films based on short stories, but be careful to sit in a straight backed chair or maybe stand with your laptop, because these are addicting. (Abby)
Mixed Media Archives
If you are interested in tapping into the virtual force field known as electronic literature, but aren’t sure where to begin, the Electronic Literature Collection (Volume 1 and Volume 2) is a good place to get acquainted with the medium. Published by The Electronic Literature Organization (ELO), this anthology is intended for reading, classroom use, sharing, and mind expansion. Meta-reading glasses not included. (Dan)
Call Me Maybe
Disclaimer: This is in no discernible way related to anything having to do with books, publishing, or reading. But who cares? Jimmy Fallon and The Roots team up with Carly Rae Jepsen to make her impossibly annoying song “Call Me Maybe” absolutely awesome–and they do it with instruments from a kindergarten classroom. Touche. (Libby)
Having a Laugh
Do you ever wonder what brilliant thinkers do for a good time? I mean, even the greatest minds of our time need a laugh every once in a while, right? Check out these silly photos to see some of your literary favorites kicking back and having some fun. (Lindsay)
